The Mixtapers land on the newborn Angis Music, founded by Samuele Pagliai, with a warm-sounding and futuristic EP: a 4-track 12″ which stems out from a collection of recordings of jam sessions in which acoustic instruments interact with electronic ones. This synergy allowed to forge a metaphysical alchemy of sounds, inspired by distant, cyberpunk worlds. The path begins with the title track “Sun Metaphors”, driven by an enveloping bassline which leads us to exotic and surreal landscapes,
dominated by a vibrating groove. The glorious vocals of the singer ALO sound like a tribute to the Sun and more generally to warm, bright energies, like a Gospel choir. The same spirituality resonates in “Trinity”, a cosmic funk trip dangling over a filmscore-like Symphony with flute and Keytar interludes.
And if it is true that the sacred has always something profane in it, side A serves also “Smokey Reflection” which is pure sensuality in its most deep and introspective form. “Stay (Away From Me)” is
the open end epilogue of a fervent journey, where the sounds of the drum machine and congas recall the atmosphere of bossa nova, also because of the presence of Sara Lima’s voice. A soft rhythm track with a progressive interplay of smooth, elegant voices. All of this creates a uniquely intimate, relaxed sonic environment dedicated to aural ecstasy.
