Description
Originally formed in 1968 at Exeter University, the band was first known as Principal Edwards Magic Theatre and was a ‘loosely based musical and theatrical co-operative’.rrChampioned by DJ John Peel, the group were the first signing to Peel’s Dandelion label in 1969. After recording two albums for Dandelion and touring for two years, the original group disbanded after the release of the album ‘The Asmoto Running Band’ (produced by Pink Floyd member Nick Mason).rrIn 1972, original members Root Cartwright (guitars, mandolin), Belinda Bourquin (violin, keyboards, recorder) and David Jones (percussion) formed a new band under the moniker of Principal Edwards with Nick Pallett (lead vocals), Richard Jones (bass, vocals) and Geoff Nicholls (drums).rrTaking a more straight forward rock direction and signing to Miles Copeland’s management company they secured a contract with Deram and recorded ‘Round One’ in 1973, with Nick Mason as producer once more.rrThis Esoteric Recordings reissue has been remastered from the original Deram master tapes and includes three rare bonus tracks.
