DONALD BYRD Chant (Limited Edition 2019 US issue of the1979 6-track stereo LP in the Blue Note Tone Poet Series,specially plated & pressed at RTI on
180gram Vinyl &mastered by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio from the originalmaster tape. Recorded on April 17, 1961 but not released until1979, this excellent quintet session features the alwaysformidable team of trumpeter legend Donald Byrd & baritonistPepper Adams. The accompanying rhythm section includespianist Herbie Hancock shortly before he joined Miles Davis’group – this is standout, superior hard bop from the early’60s, with wonderful Alfred Lion production & Rudy Van Gelderengineering for that beautiful Blue Note sound. Comes housedin a deluxe gatefold sleeve with original art. Althoughunsealed the sleeve and vinyl remains in Near Mint conditionwith no obvious signs of wear B0030234-01)

In honor of Blue Note Records’ 80th Anniversary, in 2019, the Jazz label launched the Tone Poet Audiophile Vinyl Reissue Series. Blue Note President Don Was brought in “Tone Poet” Joe Harley-co-founder and co-producer of the acclaimed Music Matters Ltd. audiophile vinyl series-to produce this new series of all-analog, mastered-from-the-original-master-tape 180 gram audiophile vinyl reissues in deluxe gatefold packaging. Mastering is by Kevin Gray (Cohearent Audio) and vinyl is being manufactured at Record Technology Incorporated (RTI).
The titles were handpicked by Harley and cover lesser-known Blue Note classics, modern era standouts, and albums from other labels under the Blue Note catalogue.
